Are you a people pleaser?

Creating boundaries for your business can be hard, but not for you because you subscribe to Her Messy Bun Creative Consulting and today we are discussing all things boundaries.

How to create boundaries for business:

Here’s the thing, creating boundaries this far along in your life can feel difficult and like you’re going against the grain. However! What’s really happening is you’re fighting back against the people pleaser mentality that was instilled into you at a very young age.

How do you know if you need to create boundaries for your business?

First off, if you’re asking that question that’s probably the first sign you need to - unless you are unaware of the boundaries you’ve already created for yourself. Which could be the case.

Here are 3 signs you need to create a boundary for your business, and an example of how to do that:

  1. Can I pick your brain?

If you are someone that allows your brain to be picked by potential clients who never end up working with you - that’s a sign you need to create a boundary.

My Consciously Creative membership has monthly group coaching calls. These are clarity calls, answer me this calls, give me validation calls, hey I have an idea but need some advice calls. They are, I’ve been struggling to convert can you check this out calls. The list really does go on, until you meet an exception to the rule.

An exception to the rule could be if you wanted me to squeeze in something from another service that I offer.

This is a necessary boundary you’d want for multiple reasons, so you don’t hold resentment, so you’re retaining your value you in each areas, what ever the case may be.

  2. Booking calls outside of your preferred time frame.

If you are booking calls whenever the client wants vs the time frames that actually fit your schedule, you are asking for burnout. So let’s fix that.

A simple boundary you can set in place is using a scheduling platform that only provides specific times you choose. I use Calendly to book all of my calls. It easily connects to my calendar and allows you to set up rules as to when you are available.

For me, I’ve learned I can’t accept anything without a 24 hour notice. This rule allows me to have a prepared schedule and work without rushing.

I’m very specific when I’ll meet with people in order to protect my energy, but to also ensure that I’m energetically available.

If you’ve purchased any of my guided intuitive calendars you know that scheduling your day around your energy is extremely important when working on creating sustainable systems and schedules for yourself.

  3. Lowering your pricing because someone can’t afford it.

I’m not talking about running a sale or discount, I’m talking about listening to someone say they really want to work with you but can’t afford it. As an entrepreneur in your early years, you might be unknowingly convinced to lower your prices so you can land a sale.

If you are lowering your prices JUST so someone will buy from you in that moment, then you need to create a boundary for yourself before you end up falling into imposter syndrome with price points that don’t align with the work it took to create that product or service.

An easy boundary you can create is to always have a low cost offer that aligns with your higher ticket offers. This is beneficial in 2 ways:

    1. If someone can’t afford your high ticket item, you have something else to offer them that they can afford. If they still don’t purchase that from you, you have a better read on what kind of business relationship they will have with you later on.

    2. If someone CAN afford to buy your high ticket item, you now have a low cost add on item that they may want to also purchase. This is part of the purchase funnel and creates a higher sale for you.

There are so many more boundaries I think every people pleasing business owner needs to have, but let’s hear from you. Head to my instagram and send me a message telling me where you feel walked on, struggle saying no, or overall feel you need a boundary, and I will create a part to sharing all my suggestions.
