Have you heard of Morning Pages?

Over 7 years ago, I heard about Morning Pages through a random YouTube video I was watching about daily routines for working from home. I remember thinking absolutely not! This YouTuber woke up before 6 every morning just to do their morning pages and made it seem like that was the only way to do it.

Fast forward some time and heard about The Artist Way, this amazing book that was written for creatives. So of course I had to read it. For those of you who don’t know The Artist Way is the book that introduced Morning Pages to the creative community back in the 90s, but I didn’t know that yet. It was still this early morning concept that I knew was not for me, so to my surprise when I started reading it, and I saw Morning Pages in it - I was like wait a second.

Long story short, I finally tried it and it was life changing, until it wasn’t. I don’t mean that it just STOPPED working, I mean I stopped being able to do them. If you are unaware of the original concept it can be hard to keep up with if you are neurodivergent, but specifically for me, it was hard to stick to it with my ADHD.

If you try it the OG way, you’re going to notice it’s a lot of shadow work, it can get sad and it can feel like it’s weighing you down - but if you keep pushing through it you can really work through things your subconscious has been trying to tell you. However, for someone who lacks the ability to create natural dopamine that can destroy your day, so to do this practice everyday like this was a lot and I just could not keep up with it!

3 Ways Morning Pages Can Grow Your Business

I made some alterations to it in order to fit it into my world, and work with my brain, and I haven’t been able to stop doing them ever since.

If you are interested in learning what I did to alter it check out podcast episode 042: What Are Morning Pages.

The major alteration is that I geared Morning Pages to business.

These alterations have allowed me to grow my business in multiple ways but today I want to share with you the top three ways that Morning Pages can help you grow your business with these alterations.

  1. It becomes Self-Coaching:

Because I provide prompts that are geared towards specific business struggles and strategies, you end up self-coaching yourself through the transitions of your business. Self-coaching is the process of guiding your own growth and development in your personal life and your professional life.

However most of the time we don’t know how to do it, where to start or how to keep it going. Doing Morning Pages with daily prompts allows you to initiate your self-coaching process and then the accountability of the membership allows you to keep it going.

Now if you’re trying this on your own, I share 25 of my favorite prompts in my Brand Strategy Goodie Bag that is completely free for you and has lots of free templates and resources to grow your business. So that would be a great way to start. Or you can join me in our group morning pages Monday - Friday, and your first session is on me.

  2. You create marketing copy:

Again, because it’s geared towards business you end up having pages up pages of copy that described your business, your products, your services, how you want to help people etc etc.

But the major part is that once you get in the habit of brain dumping all about your business, you’ve create a habit of thinking and processing what you do in business which will lead to better marketing copy the more you do.

Some of my favorite aspects about my business come from Morning Pages, including writing my podcast episodes.

  3. Clear mind to work smoothly:

What happens when you get all of your jumbled thoughts out on paper? Your brain goes - Cool, I’ve stored that information somewhere and no longer need to worry about retaining it or trying to process it while I’m doing 100 different things worrying about 100 different things.

Morning Pages leads to having a clear mind allowing you to focus and work more smoothly and yes that is also for my ADHD community. Don’t get me wrong, the struggle still exists but the fact that I know I have all this information, these goals, these ideas in a concrete place makes me able to work without freaking out that I’m forgetting something.

Honestly Morning Pages is the most underrated tool in growing your business, and if you have any questions about it at all, I’d love to hear from you!
